A case study on how we developed an in-depth training strategy and e-learning for medical technology company, Elekta. The solutions support the work of healthcare professionals who save and improve the lives of people with cancer and brain disorders.

More than 6,000 hospitals worldwide rely on Elekta technology. As pioneers of future medical technology, Elekta is setting a new standard of cancer care with magnetic resonance radiation therapy (MR/RT). MR/RT addresses an unmet need in cancer therapy, enabling clinicians to confidently see and track the target during treatment and respond based on what is being seen.

THE CHALLENGE

Elekta approached WillowDNA with a requirement to facilitate a high level holistic training needs and information needs analysis for this new technology. The task was quite significant and beyond the capabilities of Elekta’s faculty or a single Learning & Development (L&D) consultant, as it required a bottom-up review of not only the educational and training requirements for a new product, but also a review of Elekta’s current business practices with regards to strategy, design and delivery of global education and training programmes to internal/external customers.

THE SOLUTION

WillowDNA facilitated a training needs analysis of a wide variety of stakeholders for this blended training programme including clinicians, maintenance staff and nursing teams. The project included a rigorous approach to capture, data analysis and project control to enable the production of an integrated academy.

WillowDNA were able to bring a wealth of experience from complex environments and integrate with Elekta’s exacting project specifications and timelines.

Having the right combination of creditable resources at hand e.g. consultants, project methodologies and consultancy services enabled the team to deliver a comprehensive needs analysis and learning strategy.

The solution included the contribution of subject experts, mentors, engineering teams creating video materials as learning assets as well as a multi media approach to online learning.

THE RESULT

Despite the complexity of the analysis, dispersion of the workforce and emergent nature of the needs, project deliverables were on time, to budget and surpassed the expectations of senior stakeholders at Elekta; enabling immediate implementation of proposed L&D strategies, development of high quality educational and training programmes for a multitude of medical disciplines and a clear roadmap to success.
